Hostas: long lived perennials

Hostas, also known as plantain lilies, are very long lived and can outlive the gardener depending on care and conditions! Cultivars come in shades of blue, green and gold, solid and variegated.

Some have leaves that are slender and diminutive, others, like ‘Sum and Substance’ and ‘Big Daddy’ grow into huge specimens and require careful placement to ensure their leaves can unfurl unencumbered.

Hosta foliage offers something for everyone: curly; shiny; cupped; smooth; puckered; crinkled; ribbed; waxy; seersucker; and veined.
