Colorful Coleus

‘ColorBlaze Velveteen’ 

 

This new annual, like all Proven Winner plants, really lives up to its name. If you’re looking for vivid color, especially in the shade, this coleus is a great choice. ‘ColorBlaze’ is heat tolerant and also performs well in sun. It grows 2-3 feet high and will spread 12-16 inches.

Coleus are versatile and stunning in containers, beds and borders, and with so many varieties available in a wide range of colors, it’s easy to get addicted to them! They are some of the easiest plants to propagate. I like to take cuttings in late summer and start new plants, which I then winter over as houseplants.

Some of my favorite cultivars are ‘Abigail’ with its purple-veined and scalloped-edge leaves, and ‘Terra Nova Pink Poodle’, a hot pink coleus with green- and black-edged leaves.
