Viburnum dilatatum ‘Henneke’

Planting shrubs that provide bright red berries is a wonderful way to add a splash of color in winter.  Songbirds find these berries irresistible and will flock to your garden.

Cardinal Viburnum dilatatum ‘Henneke’, also known as ‘Cardinal Candy,’ is a shrub that can survive the toughest winters, and it has a lot going for it: a well-branched habit, creamy white spring flowers, burgundy foliage and abundant red berries in fall that persist into winter.

‘Cardinal Candy’ has been named a Proven Winner and will grow 6-feet tall and 4-feet wide. The ‘Henneke’ cultivar came about after a -25 degree cold spell killed all the dilatatum seedlings except one in Rod Henneke’s Indiana nursery, so knew he had something special. Plant one in your garden and you will, too.
